Apart from sustainable makeup, one of the most important traits to consider when buying a product is versatility. Having versatile products will lower your carbon footprint and completely simplify and declutter your life, which ultimately frees your mind and liberates your soul.
This all relates to bettering your physical reality, but I have reason to believe that there’s more to it than just that. Over time, I’ve come to realize that through the constant evaluation of the versatility of a product, my mind has shifted its focus from buying things to make my life easier to making things to make my life easier and stimulate my creativity.
Whether it’s cosmetics or common household items, I can honestly tell you that I’d rather make it than buy it! In thinking this way, my mind has really opened up and my self-development has improved in so many ways.
The Lemon Funnel
The other night, I really needed a funnel to pour my latest batch of beard oil into a tiny glass spray bottle. This tiny glass spray bottle is new to my repertoire of jars and is the only one that requires me to use a funnel for the transfer of liquids. That said, I really don’t see the point in buying a funnel just for that. So I decided to look around the house for some inspiration on what I could use instead. While snooping around, I came across a large, cupped lemon peel that my wife used for her cup of tea earlier that day. I first thought nothing of it, but then realized that this could be exactly what I needed.
I removed the lemon pulp, washed the peel in warm water and cut a hole in the center that was just large enough to fit the diameter of the tiny glass spray bottle. Voila, a funnel is born. Not only did this little guy exceed my expectations, but it also added a hint of lemon scent to my beard oil which was much appreciated!
The ‘lemon funnel’ can be used for as long as you’d like. And once you’re done with it, toss it into your compost bin and forget about it!
Just think of all the other possibilities out there too! There’s “Orange Funnel” for larger bottles and “Grapefruit Funnel” for even larger bottles!
Let your imagination run wild!
Until next time, The Sustainable Guy out.
